The aim of education should be to teach us rather how to think, than what to think - rather to improve our minds, so as to enable us to think for ourselves, than to load the memory with thoughts of other men. ~Bill Beattie

Standard 6

Professionalism:  Physical education teacher candidates demonstrate dispositions essential to becoming effective professionals.

Element 6.2

Participate in activities that enhance collaboration and lead to professional growth and development.

My field experience during EDU 256 gave me an opportunity to work with and observe a truly great Physical Education teacher. My host teacher was a perfect example of what an exemplary teacher should be, and he spoke with me after the week was over commenting on my professionalism. Using common courtesies is something that our society is starting to slip away from, however I take pride in my professionalism. I maintained this to the highest level by greeting everyone I came into contact with, arriving early and staying later than mandated. I feel that my host teacher evaluation shows the growth of my professionalism as well as how it is of the highest standard.

Element 6.3

Demonstrate behaviors that are consistent with the professional ethics of highly qualified teachers.

As a non-traditional student, I am already in a different category than my peers, just based upon my age as well as life experiences. I have been able to harness these experiences and make myself a better teacher candidate because of them. This certificate shows that I was recognized by one of the instructors here at SUNY Cortland, as being a hard working and excelling student in the Physical Education program. This recognition of my hard work showcases my determination towards achieving excellence in the field of Physical Education as well as holding my own personal ethics and standards at the high level.
